Tour Carel Kraayenhof Ensemble

We started touring with our new show celebrating 30 years of the ensemble. The music is an overview of music that the band played over the years and of course there are new compositions as well. Of course there will be a lot of tango music, a song by Sting, and even a piece that has a Chinese atmosphere.

This tour will also be the last tour of this ensemble. There is an interview with Carel in Dutch about why he had to take this decision on his website. You can find it here.

Overview 2017

As we are diving into 2018 it is a nice moment to look back at the beautiful moments of 2017. One that I will remember is the concerts at the Ziggo Dome with Dutch singer Anouk. With 4 cellists we joined her and her band on stage. It was great working with her and her team and of course it was big fun to perform for 17000 people. Here are some pics and a video:

Tango in Buenos Aires and NL

Since 2012 I am a member of the Carel Kraayenhof Ensemble and Sexteto Canyengue and I started dancing the tango in 2013. How lucky I felt being able to spend a full month in Argentina in July August!

I met old and new friends and among them the lovely duo Luna Ibañez tango. They invited me to record two songs together and to make a videoclip. We played a concert in Club de Musica in Palermo, Buenos Aires. Later in september this year, they visited the Netherlands as part of their European tour and we performed together in various milonga's and this lovely beach club.

Here is the videoclip we made together with a loveley team of filmmakers and dancers:

Cello and Durum...

Part of my daily life as a cellist is performing the famous masterpieces of the baroque and classical period with choirs and orchestra's. So one evening after a concert me and Soprano Nicole Fiselier went for a dirty snack around the corner of the church in Gouda. There a man asked me repeatedly to play something, so I did... The video starts with Sombre Dimanche, a Hungarian traditional and after that I play Campo afuera, a milonga, the happy version of the tango. The image is a bit slower than the sound, but you get an idea of the atmosphere :-) Nicole filmed the moment and added some percussion on the table!

Troost & Drost on Spotify

In january 2017 me and Roeland Drost made a tour in the south of Japan, performing in beautiful halls, in a hospital and in an intimate house concert. We also gave workshops to teenage music students. Fortunately enough our tourmanager has a music studio at his house where we stayed. The last day of the tour we recorded 5 pieces from our repertoire and since december 1st they are available online.

Me and Roeland shared 13,5 years of our life together and I am very happy that we have this music recorded as a memory of that beautiful period.

New Opera "El limonero real" big succes in Buenos Aires
Last July we had 5 performances of the new opera from Ezequiel Menalled in the CECT of Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires. The collaboration between Ensemble Modelo62 and the Argentinean singers and crew was great and the audience loved the piece. We had good reviews in the main national newspapers and we are currently looking for possibilities to bring this opera to The Netherlands.
El limonero real has received the RFI Award - given by Radio France Internationale and Radio Cultura - for Best Performance of the 2014 - 2015 season.
You can listen to the whole opera on soundcloud:
